Kalc Castle (pron. “kalc” or “kauc”) is located near Zagorje in the Pivka valley, not far from the source of the Pivka River. The castle, of which only the tower remains today, stands on the slope of the bank, which is 618m high. The original castle, which was presented in Valvasor’s Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, was built in the 17th c. by the Steinberg noble family. Later, the ownership was taken over by the Auersperg family and last but not least by the Slovene composer Miroslav Vilhar, who also died there. After World War I, the castle began to collapse.…

The stone crosses of Pivka are one of the most permanent and noticeable features of the cultural and landscape image of Pivka from the 17th c. to the present day. They were erected at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the village, along roads, paths and especially at crossroads. They served as a signpost and a prospect of a happy journey to the traveller or as a place of last farewell for the villagers to the deceased on their last journey.…

Parska golobina site is proof that the municipality of Pivka was inhabited as early as the Old Stone Age. Nine Paleolithic sites were discovered in the Pivka Basin, with Parska golobina being the first to be explored as early as 1950. The initiator of the research was archaeologist and palaeontologist Dr. Srečko Brodar, and his work was continued by geologist Dr. Franc Osole. He completed his work in 1959 with a PhD thesis entitled:Parska golobina – Paleolithic Station on the Southeastern Edge of the Pivka Basin. By doing so, Parska golobina found itself on the map of the oldest discovered traces of man in Slovenia.…

Kršičevec Hill is a plateau and a grassy peak with an altitude of 1,092m, which guards the western edge of the Javorniki hills.
