Ethnological Collection at the Zgonar Homestead
The village of Stara Sušica is one of the oldest settlements in the municipality of Pivka.
The written documents and the oral tradition, as well as the Roman excavations and the special architecture of the buildings, with the most famous being the church of St. John the Baptist from 1648, testify to this. The inhabitants of this small village have learned to survive through centuries of history, which has not always been favourable to them.
You can visit an interactive exhibition, which presents the still living customs in Pivka, various practices, behaviours and knowledge related to the seasons.
The Ethnological Collection at the Zgonar Homestead consists of more than 200 exhibits, tools and equipment, which testify to the working and living culture in the wider area of the Notranjska region. The collection in the home barn covering a good 200 square metres is like a living organism that is constantly evolving.
