SMALL AND LARGE CARNIVORES – A combination of fun and educational activities
One of the most popular educational programs includes a guided tour of the DINA Large Carnivores Centre and a workshop called Walk with a Hunter. During the tour, students explore ten interactive stations guided through the world of the wolf, lynx, and bear, and then head together to the nearby forest to put their theoretical knowledge into practice.
SECRETS OF THE PIVKA LAKES – Do the birds know where the water disappears?
One of the most popular educational programs includes a guided tour of the Ecomuseum of the Seasonal Lakes of Pivka and a workshop called Walk to the Lake. During the museum tour, students focus on solving the eternal mystery of the karst landscape—where, oh where, does all this water disappear? This is followed by a guided walk to the lake, which sometimes majestically stretches beneath St. Trinity, while at other times its surface is covered with numerous flowers.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
In the first part, we encourage kids to think critically and sharpen their attention on key, lesser-known, or most interesting facts about the lives of large carnivores.
The second part of the visit for the curious is dedicated to independent, active exploration enabled by new technologies.
- Due to technical limitations, the VR headset station is not part of the program for kindergarten groups.

Students learn methods of monitoring large carnivores and handle various materials and research tools. Through play and role-playing, they explore the difference between a food web and a food chain and observe the “movement” of matter through the food chain.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
With the investigative DINAmic notebook, we explore Pivka and its fascinating natural and cultural heritage. We examine a beekeeping box, follow hiking trail markers, learn about the lime tree and linden tree in the shade of both species, discover why the Pivka wastewater treatment plant is called ŽIVA, and much more. The content is interdisciplinary (for example, through songs we learn about crickets, grasshoppers, and their habitats).
- The activity takes place outdoors and is conducted even in light rain. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and clothing.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
In the first part of the workshop, together with a hunter, participants review the rules of behavior in the forest and, through experiential learning, explore the biology of hoofed game in our forests. On the forest trail, children themselves “find” antlers of roe deer and deer of various ages. In the second part, students receive tools for identifying animal tracks and a record sheet where they note observed tracks, footprints, fur, bones, droppings, and, based on the tracks, attempt to reconstruct events in nature.
- The activity takes place outdoors and is conducted even in light rain. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
- In case of severe bad weather, the activity is replaced with the workshop Touch, Weigh, Make a Print or a workshop at the Ecomuseum (depending on the starting location).

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
In the first part of the workshop, we go into the forest with the students to discover the gifts of the forest, forest etiquette, its inhabitants, and locate a spruce tree. We compare the spruce with other conifers, learn about spruce resin, its medicinal properties, and even collect some. In the second part, we explore the ingredients and preparation process of natural spruce ointment made from homemade ingredients using a traditional recipe. This is followed by a practical demonstration of making the natural spruce ointment. Each participant receives a 5 ml bottle of spruce ointment made during the workshop at the end.

Students go with a beekeeper to the educational apiary. They learn about the life of bees, their role, and bee products. They are taught first aid procedures for bee stings. In the lecture room, they watch a video about a bee colony and see a demonstration hive. They learn about different types of honey and taste some. They also make a candle from beeswax.

The Ecomuseum of the Seasonal Lakes of Pivka showcases the remarkable world of the Pivka Seasonal Lakes, which provide an important habitat for numerous animal and plant species. During the guided tour, your guide will lead you through the beautiful karst landscape of seventeen seasonal lakes—nowhere else in the world are there so many in such a small area. Sometimes you’ll see lake basins, other times colorful meadows—the Pivka lakes always offer stunning views, and at the Ecomuseum, you’ll learn fascinating stories connected to them.

The group sets off with the guide to Petelinjsko Lake, the second largest seasonal lake in the Pivka region, where water remains the longest. Along the way to the viewpoint, stunning views of St. Trinity will unfold. You may already be familiar with the story of the hero who lived below St. Trinity, but with the interpretation of the local guide, you will also learn about other features of the landscape.
